Day 1: ARRIVAL IN PANKALANBUN – KUMAI – HOUSE BOAT – TANJUNG PUTING NATIONALPARK – RIMBA ECOLODGE (L/D)

Arrival at Pankalanbun in central Kalimantan is scheduled for 2 PM via Trigana Airlines from Semarang. You will be greeted by your local guide upon arrival. The journey from Pankalanbun airport to the port town of Kumai is approximately 30 minutes. At Kumai’s harbor, you will embark on a private houseboat for a two-day excursion. Lunch will be served aboard the vessel. The houseboat will navigate from Kumai to the Sekonyer River’s mouth, then proceed upstream. From the houseboat’s rooftop, you can admire the stunning views of diverse flora and fauna. Within Tanjung Puting National Park, there is an opportunity to observe not only Orangutans but also a variety of animals including the proboscis monkeys (Nasalis Larvatus), rare bird species, long-tailed macaque monkeys, and an array of colorful butterflies. Crocodiles inhabit the Sekonyer River, hence swimming is strictly prohibited! The serenity of nature’s sounds can be enjoyed from the boat, making this journey truly unique and varied. After a two-hour sail, you will arrive at Rimba Ecolodge where you will spend the night. Dinner will be provided at Rimba Ecolodge. (L/D)

Day 2:

TANJUNG PUTING NATIONALPARK – PONDOK TANGGUI / ORANGUTAN FEEDING – CAMP LEAKEY / MUSEUM / ORANGUTAN FEEDING – RIMBA ECOLODGE ( F / M / A )

After breakfast at Rimba Ecolodge, we embarked on a houseboat journey to the second visitation site along the Sekonyer River. Upon arrival at Pondok Tanggui, one of the accessible stations within Tanjung Puting National Park, we observed and documented orangutans. At Pondok Tanggui, we participated in the 09:30 feeding activities for orangutans. Following a 30-minute soft trek through Central Borneo’s rainforest, we reached Pondok Tanggui’s feeding station, guided by a ranger. We waited for rehabilitated or wild orangutans to arrive for their meal at the station. After witnessing the fascinating feeding process, we returned to Pondok Tanggui and continued by houseboat to Camp Leakey. Lunch was served aboard. The two-hour boat trip passed through lush rainforest before arriving at Camp Leakey, where we visited a museum established by Dr. Biruté Galdikas (refer to Orangutan Foundation International for more information) and the documentation center of Camp Leakey/Tanjung Puting National Park. We toured the museum and later joined the afternoon feeding activities at Camp Leakey with a ranger. The trek to the feeding station began at 14:30 and took 45 minutes through the jungle. We adhered to the ranger’s instructions throughout. During the dry season, numerous orangutans typically gather at the station. Guests are advised not to feed orangutans independently or consume food or beverages in their presence; observing their feeding behavior is preferable. We then returned to Camp Leakey to board the houseboat once more. After immersing ourselves in the pristine world of these flora and fauna, we journeyed back to Camp Leakey and Rimba Ecolodge for our second overnight stay. Dinner was available at Rimba Ecolodge, with all meals included.

Day 3:

RIMBA ECOLODGE – KUMAI – PANKALANBUN – TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT ( B )

Enjoy an early morning breakfast at Rimba Ecolodge before checking out. A 1.5-hour houseboat ride will return you to Kumai. Upon arrival at Kumai’s harbor, we will proceed directly to Pangkalanbun Airport, marking the conclusion of our journey. (Your flight from Pangkalanbun to your next destination awaits.
